Oh, the weekend acquisitions were nothing more than wishful thinking. We were unsuccessful in acquiring clear Landsat images over the Warm and Brins Fires on Saturday, July 1. Path 37 Row 36 (Brins Fire) had clouds socked in over the fire. Another, newer fire, the Tiger-Rock Fire, is partially visible through the clouds on the bottom center of the scene. However, no interest so far from the Forest. I think our attempts at creating a BARC for the Brins Fire are quickly ending. Looks like we struck out.
Path 37 Row 35 (Warm Fire) had clouds completely cover the forest. We've got a 50,000 acre fire, and I can't see any of the burn scar through the clouds. The next attempt won't be until July 8. I'm trying to decide of this warrants using a different sensor to image before next Saturday. ALI is not an option for rapid response, SPOT could possibly get an attempt in, but the forecast is for more clouds, so I'm not sure it's financially worth the risk. I hate to make the team hand map a 50,000 acre fire, but I'm not sure we have any other viable options for them.

Did the rain help get rid of any of the fires?
Kinda...the rain helped slow these two particular fires, but the problem with most of these clouds is that they bring thunderstorms. While these storms may bring some rain, they often create more damage with unpredictable wind and dry lightning. Thunderstorms are often a red flag to fires, not a God-send.
