As you can see from the graphic, things are burning. Nevada caught fire over the last few days and I think Arizona-New Mexico may finally be slowing down. Having said that, the Warm Fire on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon burned 28,000 acres in one 24 hr. period.
I've been downloading Landsat and ASTER scenes in a flurry during the last week. I've been unsuccessful at obtaining good imagery of two fires, however: Brins and Bear. Both have had one ASTER attempt and Bear has had a Landsat attempt as well. Because Bear is over 50,000 acres, I decided to go with a SPOT 4 attempt as well. That's happening tomorrow (6/28). Brins will have to wait for the next Landsat.
My biggest hurdle right now is our download speed. As I've mentioned in a previous post, our download times have been severely lengthened. It took over 4 hours to download ~96 mb. yesterday for an ASTER scene. We've resorted to calling our colleagues at the USGS down the street, asking them to download the scene, and then I'll drive over with my jump drive and get it that way. What a hassle.
Things are busy!
