This Landsat scene was acquired around 11:30 mountain time today and within half an hour, I had a jpeg quicklook in my email inbox from EROS. The burn scar is visible in the bottom third of the image and I ordered the full multispectral scene for this fire. I should get it mid-morning tomorrow and have it out to the field by noon or so.
This region is very interesting with the "sky islands" all over the place. I mapped a few other fires in similar circumstances during the last few years: Nuttall, Aspen, and Florida (pronounced Fla-reed-duh). It's a very interesting landscape as I went to visit the Nuttall Complex in 2004 and saw moss on trees...in August...in southern Arizona! Discover Magazine had an article about this very topic in their June issue. Good reading.
